Open Door Ministries’ Shelter offers safe, temporary housing for adult men who are homeless.  The shelter offers 72 beds for the general population in one dormitory, 10 beds for clients in the substance abuse treatment program, and six beds in an overflow dormitory.  Additional overflow mattresses are set up during the cold weather months.

Eligibility
Resident of Guilford County, first preference for High Point residents, possession of North Carolina ID and social security card.

Substance Abuse Treatment
Project Homefront is an inpatient substance abuse treatment program conducted by Alcohol & Drug Services.  Clients must be a resident of the shelter to be eligible for this program.  This six-week program includes group and individual counseling sessions.

Case Management
Case managers work with the men in the main dormitory and the clients in the substance abuse treatment program.  The case managers offer assistance in obtaining resources in the community, including clothing, identification, medical services, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, housing, and employment assistance.  We also provide bus tickets for area transportation.

Veteran Assistance
A representative of the Salisbury Veterans Administration offers counseling and assessments to homeless veterans in our shelter on Wednesdays.

Medical
A volunteer nurse provides a clinic for shelter residents on Tuesday evenings.

The Nia Community Action Center provides HIV/AIDS testing and counseling on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings.

Spiritual
A worship service is held on Sunday mornings in the Father’s Table dining area.  A bible study is held on Wednesday evenings.
